Posted - 07/10/2009 : 20:33:46 Hi,
I have an Alesis DM5 Pro kit and want to upgrade to a newer E-kit. My question is primarily around noise levels as both the drum heads and cymbols on the DM5 are very noisy. Any advice on if other E-kits (Roland, Yahama, more expensive Alesis kits etc) are a lot quieter?
Thanks. |

Posted - 08/10/2009 : 13:15:17 Yeah the TD20Kx is slightly outside my price range
I'm looking at kits around the £800-£1000 range (like the Roland TD-4K, Alesis DM10 or Yahama DTXPress). Seems like mesh heads maybe the way to go so think I'll visit a pro shop and and compare.
Thanks. |

Posted - 08/10/2009 : 10:15:45 I think the cymbals will always have those rubber pads on, but the mesh heads will definatly be a bit quieter, i still wouldnt advise drumming at 1am though haha
Im debating switching my electric for a mesh praxtice kit

Posted - 08/10/2009 : 00:08:56 Yeah thats my problem. I use headphones so the neighbours/family can't even hear the actual drumming noise but the impact noise on the plastic drums and the rubber cymbol pads is still quite loud.
I'd love to be able to drum whenever I want so I'm hoping a more expensive Roland/Yahama would dampen the sound. Guess I need to visit a shop and see for myself but was hoping for some opinions on the best way to go.
Cheers. |

Posted - 07/10/2009 : 23:08:22 If you switch to one of the higher end roland models they have mesh heads which are supose to be quieter than the rubber pads.
I have the same trouble at the moment, cant even drum at 2:30 in the afternoon unplugged without the people above getting funny about it, but then they are just really annoying people! I never drum past 5pm because people getting home from work!
